So this is it….my very first post in my sparkly new blog! I’m so excited!!
It took me forever to decide what to write about. You know, to make a good impression and all that. In the end I thought it might be nice to share the purpose of this blog, why I started it and a little bit of what you can expect if you decide to pay me a visit from time to time, which I hope you will!
First of all, I didn’t really know much about the blogging world until about 12 months ago. I mean, I knew it was out there, but I didn’t really ‘get it’ and I never really read blogs or sought them out. It was only when Jim (the hubby) and I decided to up and leave the UK for Indonesia on our most recent adventure, that I took an interest. A few people mentioned that blogging would be a great way to share our journey and keep in touch with the people we care about back home, so I started to look into it.
I began my first blog Surf Break to keep a record of our adventure for both ourselves and our family. I try to write on it monthly, detailing what we have been up to and funny stories about any (of mostly Jim’s) misadventures. It was never intended for a mass audience or for people outside our circle, but this simple step opened up a whole new world to me. I found myself totally addicted to reading other blogs and chatting with the blogging community. I was able to reach out to other dietitians, discuss practice questions and find workout and fitness tips from experts and health enthusiasts online. I realized that there were so many people out there, sharing their stories and knowledge and it was all easily accessible, there for everyone to learn from and enjoy. You can see some of my favorite blogs in the ‘Blogs I Love’ sidebar tab.
These people have inspired me to take a new direction with a new blog, and Food & Nonsense is the result.
About The Food
Anyone that knows me knows I love food. All food. Like, everything. All the gorgeous, yummy ‘healthy’ veggies and things, but even the stuff as a dietitian I’m supposed to turn my nose up at and declare ‘unhealthy’ and disgusting. Like hotdogs.
I also love to talk all things food and nutrition related in both a personal (I found it like this) and professional (this is what the science says) kind of way. Nutritional myths, diet reviews, weight loss discussions, dietetic practice questions, research papers and recipe love, I’ll share my thoughts here. I’ll try my very best to keep from rambling and I promise I’ll be evidence based.
Side note: Errr, yes I am eating a giant burger on the front page of this blog. No, I’m not sorry and yes, it was AMAZING. (Fergburger, New Zealand for those of you that are interested, totally worth the zillion Kcal it most definitely contained).
About the Nonsense
From a more personal perspective, I’m also on a mission to have a happy and healthy lifestyle and to make the most of life every day. My goal is to keep improving myself. I am aiming to be better, not perfect and to keep a balanced view in a world obsessed with unrealistic and unhealthy body image, fads and quick fixes. The nonsense is the everyday stuff, at random. As it happens. I’ll share my exercising triumphs and failures, my progress as I work towards my dreams and goals and any fun adventures I happen to stumble across as I fumble my way through this journey called life.
