Snark: What The *??!! Are Biodynamic Eggs

Ahhhh health food elitism. As everyones eating kale and chia now, it’s only natural that the rich, health seeking hobbyists out there need to find another way to make their healthy diet better than yours.

Enter the newest alienating food trend: Astrologically farmed eggs.

As showcased by the latest in “style-over-substance wellness gurus”, the Helmsley sisters, “astrologically farmed eggs” are eggs that have been farmed using the philosophy of biodynamic farming.

This type of farming uses sustainable and organic farming practices to preserve the land and grow great food (so far so good).

However, unlike other farming methods biodynamic farming draws on unconventional (and unproven) ideas about using the lunar calendar (cycles of the moon) to help them to decide when to plant crops, as well as crystals in cow horns buried in the ground to help restore the natural cosmic resonance of the soil.

If you think that it sounds like bulls**t. That’s because it is.

There is currently no evidence that “biodynamic farming” holds any benefit over organic or other integrated sustainable farming methods.

There is also no nutritional benefit of these eggs over other eggs.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to eat them.

I mean, go ahead, eat lovely eggs. Free roaming, cruelty free ones if you can.

But you don’t need to spend extra on feeding your chickens biodynamic food planted 2 days before the full moon, or whatever.

Please don’t.

Happy Monday!

Love it!! As always, sensible, well-informed opinion from you :) When do you get your own Sainsbury’s cafe or TV show like those irritating H sisters?

Excellent, sensible comments exposing another “Emperors new clothes story”. The elitist attitude to food and health that promotes uniquely produced, costly products does nothing to help the general public eat healthily. Well done keep on exposing th Bulls***

This is interesting – I’ve not heard this definition of biodynamic. I came across the phrase twice in a week, one with our local farmer and his eggs, and at a beauty store. Both times I was told it’s to do with handpicking produce rather than using machinery to prevent pollution. Might be a bit extensive but the lunar cycles sound like nonsense to me!
